Watch us make this recipe!

Ya’ll, I love an old-fashion pie! I first had this pie at a job that I was working at. I had a boss that could really burn (cook really well).

My boss made a few buttermilk pies and brought them to the office for us to enjoy. When I first looked at this pie, I said, I don’t know about this.

I am not typically a custard person, but I decided to try it anyway. Ya’ll it was love at first bite! It was heaven on a plate.

From then on, I was like you have to make this pie again. I no longer work at that job, so it’s time that I made my own. The pie looks plain, but it in no way lacks in flavor.

Steps to make this recipe:

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Remove the pie crust from the freezer and allow to stand on the counter (for at least 10 minutes).

In a bowl, whisk together buttermilk, lemon juice, flour, butter, eggs, nutmeg and sugar until combined.

Pour mixture into pie crust. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool before serving.

Don’t let the addition of the buttermilk deter you, the pie is in no way bitter. The blend of lemon juice, sugar and nutmeg makes all of the difference.

And you all know I have to keep it simple, so we are using a pre-made pie crust.

All you have to do is remove the pie from the freezer ten minutes prior to filling the crust and your good to go.

Once the pie was done, I sprinkled it with powdered sugar to give it a little pizzazz, but that is up to you whether you choose to add it or not.

Don’t you all just love the holidays? It’s all about good comfort food, spending time with family and friends.

Typically I spend Thanksgiving at my grandmother’s house in Louisiana and Christmas here in Texas, but this year will be different.

We typically do not spend Christmas with her because the weather can be “iffy” in December, but we are going to go for it this year!

She has her sisters to spend the holidays with, but there is nothing like having your children and grandchildren around right?

My mom and I are doing all of the cooking so she won’t have anything to worry about. She used to cook the entire meal, but it has just become too much for her.

She doesn’t make buttermilk pie, but she makes other treats like 7 Up cake and Coconut cake. They make take her all day to make, but she makes sure that she makes us something special.
