When I first decided to get into the business of recipe development and food photography I had no idea where to begin, but after several months of research, I began to find my way.
Articles such as these were my saving grace. They gave me a good foundation of where to start with the valuable resources that I needed for my blog.
Now I’m passing along what I have learned to you. I not only researched this information, but all of these resources are used for this blog so I can tell you first hand how valuable they are. I hope that these resources help you along your blogging journey.
This post contains affiliate links. This means that if you choose to make a purchase using any of my links I will receive a commission, which helps keep this blog running. This is always at no additional cost to you. Please read my Disclaimer Page for more information. Thanks!
Bluehost is the hosting site that I use for my blog. Unless you are a hobby blogger, you need a hosting site for your blog.
Bluehost has excellent customer service that is available 24 hours a day. For newbie bloggers, I suggest starting with the basic plan. You can always upgrade your plan if needed.
Your plan comes with free domain name registration and WordPress is automatically installed for you. For more information on how to start a blog, you can check out my article here.
Jetpack is a service that performs automatic backups your blog. Every blog needs a backup service. This is non-negotiable. Jetpack will notify you via email or through their app anytime your website is down.
This has happened to me a few times for various reasons- i.e. an issue with one of my plugins. Most of the time it is has been for a short period of time, less than five minutes, but you never know when something serious is going on.
I was able to quickly contact Bluehost and get help with correcting the issue to get my site back up and running. Without receiving the notification from Jetpack, there is no telling how long my site would have been down before I realized it.
This service also offers security to protect your site from spam, malware and brute force login attacks. Jetpack plans start at$3.50 a month.
Tailwind is a scheduling service that allows you to schedule posts for Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter. This app is a true game changer and time saver.
I use this service mostly for my Pinterest account and can schedule pins for months at a time. Anytime that I publish a new post, I simply add my pin to tailwinds smart scheduler.
Tailwind allows you to add your pin to several groups at one time with a few simple clicks. Tailwind uses a smart scheduler to post your pins to Pinterest at the times that your followers are most active.
You can schedule your own content as well as other bloggers content as well. Tailwind also offers its own analytics and send you a weekly progress report to let you know how things are progressing.
They offer a free trial so that you can get familiar with the service before paying for it. I started with a free trial and after a month I was hooked. The service is so easy to use.
I chose the yearly plan for $119, which saved me $60 extra that I would have been paying by choosing the monthly plan.

There is an application process; however, it is short and Share-A-Sale replies back pretty quickly once they have verified that your a real person and not a bot.

The theme used for this site is Daily Dish Pro which I purchased through Studiopress. What I liked about this theme is that it had a magazine type of look. If you purchase a theme, the framework is included. The Genesis framework is the powerhouse for your theme. The theme is the design template for your website.
A few other great themes for food bloggers is the Foodie Pro theme, Brunch Pro theme and Divine Pro theme. Studiopress provides instructions for each theme to assist you with installation and customization. The themes are also built SEO friendly.
Analytic Design is a website design company that has a Do It Yourself (DIY) website design course. The course walks you step by step with designing your site from scratch.
Included in the course are weekly live training sessions where members are able to ask questions and receive additional training regarding the course content. This session takes place in a private member only Facebook group.
Other components of the training:
Search engine optimization (SEO)
Social media marketing
Affiliate marketing and other forms of monetization
FREE premium theme
Already have an existing website? No problem. This training also assists those who want to keep their current theme, but want to make overall improvements to their website.
Members can still practice on the DIY website to ensure that they understand how to properly set up their website for to rank high in Google, have a low website load time and a clean, user-friendly looks that will keep attracting visitors. The DIY website can be converted over at any time.
The course takes place over 5 months. Paying someone to design your website could cost thousands of dollars.
This course provides a low-cost option to build or re-build a quality website and training to ensure the success of your business.
The course is $169 a month, but again. The cost of hiring a designer would start at least $2500. In five months, you don’t even spend $1000.
You receive so much more than just website design. You have knowledge that carries you through.
I have learned so much by taking this course. I learned early on that to be successful in business requires an investment.
